We invite you to participate in a research study conducted by the Department of Psychology and Speech-Language Pathology at the University of Turku. This study investigates how people remember face images and how visual attention influences memory processes, with a particular focus on a property known as memorability.

This research is part of the doctoral studies of Zhihu Pan. The research plan has been reviewed and approved by the Ethics Committee for Human Sciences at the University of Turku.

Purpose of the Research
The aim of this study is to gain a better understanding of why some face images are inherently easier to remember than others and how this relates to attentional mechanisms during memory tasks.

Who Can Participate?
We are recruiting about 30 participants from the Turku area. You are eligible to participate if you:

Are aged between 18 and 35 years;

Have normal or corrected-to-normal vision (glasses or contact lenses are acceptable);

Have no known history of neurological or psychiatric disorders;

Do not have any eye conditions that would prevent accurate eye-tracking measurement (e.g., severe strabismus, nystagmus, or other significant visual impairments).

How Does the Study Proceed?
This study is an eye-tracking experiment and involves one laboratory session lasting approximately 2 hours.

During the experiment:

You will sit comfortably in front of a computer screen;

Your eye movements will be recorded using a non-invasive eye-tracking device while you view a series of face images;

You will perform simple memory tasks by responding with key presses.

Participation is entirely voluntary, and you may withdraw at any time without any negative consequences.

Compensation
As a thank-you for your time, you will receive either:

2 course credits, or

a €20 GoGift gift card

as compensation for your participation.

Registration and Cancellation
Registration closes 24 hours before the start of the session.

If you need to cancel your participation, please do so at least 12 hours before the experiment begins.

In case of cancellation, please inform us by email.
